Review: iPhone 12 Pro

I had my iPhone 12 Pro for about a week and a half but unfortunately had to part ways with it. With no Apple Stores super close to me, and a back order of about a month for a new one, I opted to return the phone.

A few days in I started noticing a flickering on the screen. Thinking it was something to do with auto-brightness, I carried on and didn’t think further into it. After it consistently started happening I decided it was not a good idea to keep this device. Since I was in the return window, I thought it would be a good idea to return it so I wouldn’t be stuck with a broken phone. I am still not sure what the issue was but I did enjoy my time with the 12 Pro. Apple was great with support, as always. Though my experience with this new phone was less than ideal, I would still recommend the iPhone 12 Pro.

Size

Coming from the iPhone 11 Pro I was worried about the size increase from a 5.8-inch screen to a 6.1-inch screen. And to be honest, there wasn’t a huge difference when using the phone. What I didn’t like about this phone, which was true with the 11 Pro last year, was the weight. The phone is so heavy. The 11 Pro was heavy and the 12 Pro is even heavier. I know this comes with the premium build quality and materials but the weight is just something I cannot get behind.

Performance

This thing is fast. Which it should be, its new. I couldn’t really tell a difference in speed compared to last year’s already-fast 11 Pro but where I could tell a difference was the increase in RAM. The increase from 4GB of RAM to 6GB is very noticeable. I first realized it when it was at least 24 hours between opening and reopening a specific app and there was no refresh on the app and it opened up right where I left off. This app regularly refreshes upon opening on my 11 Pro. So that was very cool.

I really have no eye for camera differences. The camera on the 11 Pro is so good and way more than I need. I will never turn down a better camera so rest assured this one is good!

Design

The design, in my opinion, is the best part of the phone. With the squared off sides, this is the device I have been longing for since its demise after the iPhone 5s and first-generation SE. Outside of the weight, holding this phone is a joy.

The flat screen is also something that caught my attention. I can’t really put my finger on what it is that I like about it but I like that it feels unified and as one single piece of glass. A Slab of Glass, if you will.

The stainless steel around the phone has a very premium feel and look to it. Personally, I would rather have more a grippier back instead of the frosted matte texture that the Pro’s have. Granted, most times it is in a case, I am just not a fan of the matte feeling on the back.

Overall, this phone is top notch. A little heavy for my liking, but very premium. If you want one of the best smartphones available, need that 2X telephoto lens, and don’t want the large 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max, this is a great buy. I would also highly recommend looking at the iPhone 12 and 12 mini to save a little bit of cash if you do not need that third 2X telephoto lens.

This review is short because there just isn’t much that is needed to be said. Looking at the design says a lot of what I want to say. If you have an iPhone XS or older, this will be a nice upgrade for you. Other than cosmetically, coming from an iPhone 11, you probably won’t tell much of a difference. But, if you always want the latest and greatest, want the BEST camera, and can afford it, then go for it. You won’t be disappointed.
